Community Service in Nicaragua--May 2012

Since so many of you were interested and we ran out of space on the APRIL trip, I want to let everyone we are going again to Nicaragua on May 18th (or 19th)-May 28th through the non-profit organization, FRIENDS NEW ENGLAND (FNE), with Mike Cipoletti. www.friendsne.org


For those of you looking to have a global public health and community development experience but have a budget constrain, this is the trip for You!

SPOTS ARE LIMITED SO PLEASE ASK/EMAIL FIRST!!

Trip details:

  • Air faire (between $500-600) and should be brought as soon as possible because prices will go up!
  • $350 for expenses (100 dollar deposit checks need payable to "FriendsNE" and mailed to 1 Torpie st. Boston, MA 02120) 

o   The $350 will include: meals, lodging-sleeping arrangements, potable water, transportation (from and to airport, and in the country), most activities (volcano climbing, beach day, etc. ALL to be decided shortly)
                    
Public health related events:
  • Will incorporate service (building a family a home and community activities and events)
  • Public health related programming (dictated by group wants and needs: i.e.small public health lectures, networking, research    opportunities, community development projects, etc)
  • First aid outreach in Nuevo Amanecer
  • Culture, History and FUN (salsa night) 
[This trip  will be done in conjunction with a group from Stony Brook University.]

Fundraising requirements:
As a group and individual:
We will have to fundraise money that will go to:
  • $1800 dollars builds a house.
  • Scholarships: given to high school students, and elementary school students
  • Micro-finance Women's Initiative (currently under development)
  • A large library being built in Chacraseca.
