Volunteer Opportunity: Project Contact

Project Contact, New York Methodist Hospital
Seeking Volunteers

We currently have a few select opportunities in our Emergency Room Program “Project Contact” at New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

In order to qualify you must at least be completing your sophomore year of college. Priority will be given to upper classman and post bac students. Candidates who speak Spanish or Russian are encouraged to apply.

This program requires a Project Contact Orientation as well as twelve hours of training beyond the general orientation. An eight hour a week service commitment divided into two four hour shifts for no less than six months is mandatory. Placements are available seven days a week, fifteen hours per day. There is a minimum time requirement to be discussed at the time of the interview.

Project Contact provides pre-med students with exposure to the needs of patients during an emergency room visit. Volunteers become part of the Emergency Department Team serving in four areas: Treatment, Registration/ Triage, Rapid Evaluation Unit, and Pediatric Treatment. Volunteers work directly with patients, caregivers and medical professionals. This is a patient focused assignment that allows volunteers the opportunity to add to the high quality of service given at New York Methodist while observing and learning how care is provided in a modern fast paced Emergency Room.

To apply please go to www.nym.org, click on “About Us,” then “Volunteer” and fill out an application.
