The Medical Dialogue Review (MDR) needs writers and reviewers for this semester's edition! MDR is a peer-reviewed undergraduate journal that gets published at the end of each semester.
If you are interested in writing, send a proposal for an article to Misha at mb3687@nyu.edu. Preliminary proposals should be received by Sunday, February 19, 2011. See below for the complete timeline.
If you are interested in reviewing, please email mb3687@nyu.edu with your name, expected year of graduation, and a short, well-written writing sample about why you want to be a part of our team. We will try to include as many people as are interested, but the first students to respond will be given priority if we run out of space.
There are only TWO basic criteria for MDR submissions:
- Medical relevance means that the subject matter is both current and important in the medical community.
- Social significance means that the article should be written to inform an audience who is not necessarily interested in any medical or scientific field (that is, an article on research should not be a mere write-up of research, but an explanation of why and how that research affects humankind).
We encourage submissions in all fields as they relate to medicine, from the humanities to the sciences. We also encourage medical art submissions, patient perspectives, and all forms of relevant creative writing!
· Article Proposal- Sunday, February 19, Midnight
o A short paragraph explaining what you are going to write about or submit to the journal. The earlier you submit a proposal, the sooner we can approve your topic, so submit them early! (send to mb3687@nyu.edu)
· First Draft- Sunday, March 11, Midnight
o A 700-3000 word article on the subject of your choice. Be sure to include works cited if you use any outside sources with proper citations!!
o Please send your first draft to mb3687@nyu.edu with the subject heading “MDR Draft #1”. Also send your draft as a word attachment with the title “MDR Draft #1 -- your name.” The Editor in Chief will forward your articles to the Senior Editor who will then contact both writers and reviewers.
o Reviewers will be assigned to articles by March 18. The Senior Editor will assign all writers and reviewers— please direct any questions about the review process to the Senior Editor. Please use track changes when reviewing articles.
· Reviewer Deadline- Sunday, April 3, Midnight:
o Reviewers return edited articles to the Senior Editor. The Senior Editor will personally review and send the articles back to the writers.
