Position: Nutrition Education Intern

Description: City Harvest is seeking graduate students of nutrition or a related field who are interested in gaining experience providing nutrition education. Two opportunities are available – one facilitating cooking and nutrition classes, and the other training teachers at day care centers and afterschool programs to implement nutrition educations lessons regularly. This internship may be applied towards field work hours and to gain practical experience in the field of nutrition education. These programs are part of nutrition education programming at City Harvest, where tools are provided to low-income individuals and families to foster healthier eating habits through improved skills and knowledge. We implement nutrition education courses – along with the assistance of volunteer chefs, nutritionists, and class managers – focusing on healthy cooking techniques, nutrition information, and physical activity at partnering agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, schools, senior centers, and other community base organizations. Qualifications

·         Obtained or working towards a graduate degree in nutrition or a related field

·         Willingness to travel to underserved communities in Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, and northwest Queens via public transportation, or Staten Island if you own a car

·         Interest in providing education about food, cooking, and good nutrition

·         Comfortable speaking in from of an audience

·         Comfortable leading other volunteers

·         Strong communication and interpersonal skills

·         Strong organizational skills

·         Comfortable working with diverse cultures

·         Flexible and able to implement creative solutions
