Naturopathic Medicine

What is naturopathic medicine? Naturopathic medicine is constructed around the idea that the human body has an innate healing ability. Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) use natural therapies to enhance patient health and fight disease by efficiently blending modern medical technology with more natural and traditional medical approaches. As a result, NDs create alternative medical therapies to heal, treat disease, and overall restore excellent health in their patients.

What’s the different between an MD and ND?? A licensed naturopathic physician attends a 4-year naturopathic medical school and receives the same basic science courses as an MD. An ND will further study holistic and nontoxic treatments with a strong focus on disease prevention and optimizing great health. After the standard medical curriculum, the naturopathic physician is required to complete four years of training in clinical work and counseling. NDs will take the professional board exams to become a licensed primary care general practice physician and work in private practices, hospitals, clinics, and community health centers.

It is important to mention that NDs are fluent in the language of conventional medicine. They diagnose the same way MDs do, however, NDs take the diagnosis a step further by looking at the body as a whole interrelated system instead of just a specific region. NDs then introduce different types of natural treatments to patients whom are weary of prescription drugs. Some of these treatments include changes in nutrition and exercise, acupuncture, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, and many more.
